The monks lock Jiang Gan inside the west wing room, which is completely empty. At night, Jiang Gan finds a way to escape. After leaving the ancient temple he bumps into Pang Tong. In the midst of the cold night Pang Tong is sitting and reading, when Jiang Gan knocks on his door to ask for a cup of hot tea. He is served a cup of wine, and after talking to the host, Jiang Gan finds out that this is master Pang Tong. He is very pleased, and invites Pang Tong to cross the river with him and seek shelter with Cao Cao.
