Guan Yu gives his farewell-letter and the list of gold and silver he has received from Cao Cao to a servant who would pass it on to Cao Cao. When Guan Yu arrives at the northern city gate it is locked, so he cuts the lock open with his sword and leaves the city. When Cao Cao gets news, Guan Yu has already left.
